Bacterial conjunctivitis is highly contagious and easily treated. Through the Wales Common Ailments Service, our pharmacists can assess and treat it free of charge.
Symptoms:
- Red or pink eyes with yellow/green discharge
- Eyelids crusting together, especially in the morning
- Itching, burning or gritty sensation
- Swollen eyelids and increased watering
Treatment at Knights Pharmacy:
We can supply antibiotic eye drops or ointment (typically chloramphenicol) free of charge. We will also advise on hygiene to prevent spread. Most cases clear in 5–7 days.
When to see your GP:
If vision is affected, pain is significant, or symptoms don't improve after 5 days of antibiotic drops.
