Constipation is extremely common and usually responds well to the right treatment. Through the Wales Common Ailments Service, our pharmacists can supply appropriate laxatives and dietary advice free of charge.
Symptoms:
- Fewer than three bowel movements per week
- Hard, dry or lumpy stools that are difficult to pass
- Straining, bloating or a feeling of incomplete emptying
Treatment at Knights Pharmacy:
We can supply bulk-forming laxatives (ispaghula husk), osmotic laxatives (macrogol or lactulose) or stimulant laxatives (senna or bisacodyl) depending on your needs, alongside advice on fibre, fluid intake and activity.
When to see your GP:
If there is blood in your stools, significant unexplained weight loss, or a persistent new change in bowel habit — particularly if you're over 50.
