Chickenpox Advice & Treatment

Get free NHS chickenpox advice at Knights Pharmacy in Wales — no GP appointment needed.

Chickenpox is a common, highly contagious viral infection, most frequent in children. Through the Wales Common Ailments Service, our pharmacists can provide appropriate symptomatic treatment free of charge.

Symptoms:

  • Itchy, fluid-filled blisters that crust over — typically starting on the chest or face
  • A mild temperature and feeling unwell before the rash appears
  • New crops of blisters appearing for several days

Treatment at Knights Pharmacy:

We can supply calamine lotion, chlorphenamine antihistamine (for itching and sleep), and paracetamol for fever. Important: do not give ibuprofen or aspirin with chickenpox.

When to see your GP:

Urgently if blisters are becoming very infected, your child has difficulty breathing, or if a pregnant woman, newborn or immunocompromised person has been exposed.
