Diarrhoea Treatment

Get free NHS diarrhoea treatment at Knights Pharmacy in Wales — no GP appointment needed.

Most cases of diarrhoea are caused by a short-lived infection and resolve within a few days. The priority is staying hydrated. Through the Wales Common Ailments Service, our pharmacists can provide treatment and advice free of charge.

Symptoms:

  • Frequent, loose or watery stools
  • Abdominal cramps and nausea
  • Urgency to reach the toilet

Signs of dehydration:

  • Dry mouth
  • Dark urine
  • Dizziness

Treatment at Knights Pharmacy:

We can supply oral rehydration salts (e.g. Dioralyte) to replace lost fluids and electrolytes, and loperamide (for adults and children over 12) to reduce bowel frequency. We'll also advise on diet and hygiene.

When to see your GP:

If there is blood or mucus in stools, significant signs of dehydration, or symptoms persist beyond 4 days. Babies under 1 should be seen if diarrhoea lasts more than 24 hours.
